Breast Revision in Salt Lake City & Moab, UT
The vast majority of women who get breast implants are very happy with the outcomes and enjoy their results for many years. However, there are no guarantees with breast augmentation. Even a perfectly planned and flawlessly executed surgery may require revision surgery. Dr. Leland Chick has the skill and expertise required to perform breast revision and satisfy his patients’ ultimate goals.
What Is Breast Revision?
Breast revision surgery involves replacing breast implants with a new pair. Every procedure is different, because the surgery is completely personalized to the unique needs and expectations of the individual patient. Some women opt for a change in implant size or type, and others prefer to keep the same size and type.
Who Is a Candidate for Breast Revision?
You may be a candidate for breast revision if you are disappointed with the results of a previously performed breast augmentation procedure, or your breast appearance has changed over time due to the effects of aging, gravity or nursing.
Another reason why you may seek out breast revision is if you develop an implant complication, such as one of the following:
Capsular contracture is a hardening of the scar tissue surrounding the implant, which can cause breast pain and a distorted breast appearance.
Symmastia refers to implant malposition in which the breasts or breast implants appear to merge at the center of the chest.
Implant rippling refers to folds and wrinkles of the implant that are visible through the breast skin.
Breast implant illness
Breast implant illness refers to a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, muscle/joint pain, fevers and “brain fog,” that women claim to experience after breast augmentation.
Whenever possible, Dr. Chick performs breast revision through the original breast augmentation incisions. He removes the implants along with any hardened scar tissue. If needed, Dr. Chick can lift and tighten the natural breast tissue and remove loose skin to give the breasts a perkier and more youthful position. After he has inserted the new implants into the tissue pocket, he closes the incisions.
Breast Revision Recovery
The recovery from breast revision is very similar to that of primary breast augmentation. You can expect to take one to two weeks off from work and four to six weeks off from strenuous exercise after your revision surgery.
Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Revision
Should I visit my original breast augmentation surgeon to perform my revision?
It is up to you whether you visit your original breast augmentation surgeon. Regardless of whom you choose to perform your revision, make sure he or she is a board-certified plastic surgeon with the skill level and expertise necessary to handle these complex cases. Keep in mind your surgeon will need the surgical details of your primary breast revision to plan your revision surgery.
Can breast implant revision fix asymmetry between the breasts?
Yes, breast revision can improve symmetry by resizing or replacing one or both breast implants. Breast lift techniques can also be incorporated as needed to ensure the breasts are positioned in line with one another.
Are there any risks to breast revision?
Risks of breast revision include the following:
- Hematoma or seroma
- Changes in nipple sensation
- Unsatisfactory results necessitating additional surgery
Reduce your risk of complications by selecting your provider carefully and following all of your pre- and post-operative instructions.
