Brachioplasty is the removal of loose skin on the upper arms. The major drawback to this procedure is a significant scar that extends from the armpit to near the elbow on the inside of the arm.

The procedure takes about 1 1/2 hours, and is often combined with other procedures such as a breast lift.

Afterwards, wearing an elastic sleeve or ace wraps is necessary for about two to three weeks to help contain swelling. Most people can return to work in about 7 - 10 days, if the job is not physically demanding.

The potential complications of Brachioplasty are infections, wound healing complications, bad scars, and transient swelling of the lower arms. It is not recommended for obese patients, most patients with lymphedema, or patients who have had a mastectomy.
